Tasty Thursdays: Hobbit Edition

Posted on June 27, 2013 by Caroline

Since Kelsey recently did a post about the new Hobbit movie coming out in December, I thought I’d continue the Hobbit action with this week’s Tasty Thursday post! There are some pretty creative bakers out there, and these Hobbit-inspired treats are almost too cool to eat!

How cool would it be to get this cake for your Sweet Sixteen?

Freaky Friday: Batty Edition

Posted on June 21, 2013 by Caroline

The Palla bat uses its long tongue to mop up nectar. Seems pretty normal, right? Well here’s the freaky part:  the bat’s tongue becomes engorged with blood in order to do this. The blood makes little hairs on the end of the bat’s tongue stand up, allowing it to soak up food. Scientists discovered this freaky phenomenon after studying a high-speed video of the Palla bat feeding. Take a look for yourself! What do you think of this bat’s crazy tongue?

Movie Monday: The NEW Hobbit Trailer!

Posted on June 17, 2013 by Kelsey

The-Desolation-of-SmaugIf there’s one thing I love more than Doctor Who, it’s the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films by Peter Jackson. Which is why last Tuesday I nearly had a total and complete meltdown (in a good way) while watching the brand new trailer for the second film in the Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug. Seriously, this movie looks FANTASTIC. I can’t wait to watch Bilbo and his dwarf companions continue on their journey – and don’t forget the elves – everyone loves Legolas, right?!

What’s the worst thing about this trailer?
Having to wait until December 13th to be able to watch the film – why can’t it come out sooner?

Freaky Friday: Fashion Edition

Posted on June 14, 2013 by Kelsey

We love unique fashion here at Plasticland, but sometimes fashion can be a little too unique! Some of these ensembles are downright freaky – which of course is why we just can’t look away!…

These insect inspired beaded face coverings at Maison Martin Margiela give me the creeps – and probably nightmares too!

Dissecting Sculptures

Posted on May 25, 2013 by Caroline

I stumbled across the artwork of Cao Hui and it definitely made me stop and stare for a moment.  I love the idea of dissecting classic sculptures and thinking about what they would look like if their insides were made of flesh and blood. It adds a new element to classic Greek and Roman sculptures that definitely makes them more interesting and more complex.

The way that these sculptures are cut up makes them look like building blocks, almost like giant toys that you could stack and unstack!
