Tune-In Tuesdays: Arrested Development

Posted on May 14, 2013 by Maria

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for here at Plasticland… the Netflix premiere of Arrested Development: Season 4, on Sunday, May 26! What’s even more fantastic is that the original cast hasn’t changed! Definitely worth the 7 year hiatus to get the original cast back to produce the next season in the series.

Check out the trailer Here: http://youtu.be/vzVhPCMAxWQ

One of my favorite scenes:

Buster: Mom is becoming a little controlling.

Michael: What tipped you off? When she locked you out on the balcony again?

Buster: That was half my fault. I thought I saw a Graham Cracker out there.

Michael: You baited the balcony?

Lucille Bluth: Prove it.

Tune-in Tuesday: Wicked

Posted on April 16, 2013 by Kelsey

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to see Broadway’s Wicked here in Dallas TX. I will admit that I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to this musical, as I’ve now seen it 3 times (it’s my absolute favorite). Every time I watch it, I notice something different and this time I really had the chance to tune-in to the incredible award winning and totally Steampunk inspired Set Design by Eugene Lee, as well as Susan Hilferty’s gorgeous Edwardian inspired costumes!

Tune-In Tuesday: Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes

Posted on March 26, 2013 by Jordan

Clairy Browne and the Bangin Rackettes

Last week, the entire Plasticland executive team (…uh, Rebecca & I) decided to go see a show on a whim; Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes. Although we hadn’t heard of them before seeing this show, we were still super excited to go see them play because – one, they are a 60’s rhythm & blues, modern soul-revival type act – and two, they are from Australia (…a land far far away…)! Despite being a Monday night, and a rather comatose crowd (what’s up people?), Clairy & crew brought us some rockin’ & rolling thunder from down under with both a sonically and visually entertaining show that had us dancing and grooving from the first note.

As one would expect, Clairy and her lovely Rackettes (Ruby, Loretta & Camilla) steal the spotlight with their vocal harmonies, choreographed dance moves and fringed go-go outfits. The singing is soulful with much of the lyrics focused on love, along with “He done me wrong”-style betrayal and all heartbreaking points in between.

But what really put the boogie in my back was the raw, stripped-down sound coming from the hep cats in their backup band. These guys mixed up some Memphis Soul with a little Sixties Surf and turned out some grooves that really got people moving!

After a strategic stop at the Merch table to pick up their new album, Baby Caught the Bus on vinyl (please & thank you!), we met some members of the band, who were kind enough to stick around after the show. Their down-to-earth personalities and endearing politeness was unexpected and made us appreciate what they do as an act even more. We were also completely shocked when they told us that this Dallas show was the first show of the tour (excluding the 4 or 5 sets they just played at SXSW in Austin)! Their playing was tight and their energy was strong! Kudos to Miss Clairy for coming well prepared to rock this house. Consider us their new biggest fans!

Tune-in Tuesdays: The Walking Dead

What’s Plasticland tuning-in to on TV? Well… you already know we love planning for the Zombie apocolypse with our Killer Zombie Survival Kit, and spending time creating our own zombie army with the help of the Creepy Zombigami Origami Book – so it should be no surprise that we love watching The Walking Dead.

*SPOILER ALERT*

Zombies! Horror! What more could you ask for in a television show? For those of you who don’t know, the show is about Rick Grimes, a sheriff who wakes up to a post-apocalyptic, zombie-ridden world. He sets out through Atlanta to find his family who has taken shelter with a group of survivors. Once Rick joins the group the craziness of the show really starts. Walkers attack the camp, group members die, new camps are made, more group members die and villains are introduced. The horrors of the show aren’t just the zombies; some of the creepiest scenes of the show involve the villain from the 3rd season. Seriously, he’s one messed up creepy guy AND he wears an eye patch, so you know he’s really bad…hehe… One of the coolest characters on the show is Michonne – this katana wielding lady sure knows how to kill a zombie! If you love horror and drama, you’ll love this show. If you easily get sick when it comes to gore then you might want to stay away because the zombie kills are really one of the reasons to watch the show – duh… What’s the best thing about the show? The incredibly realistic prosthetics and make-up they use for the “walkers” (zombies). Let’s just say that I’ve had lot’s of nightmares…

Channel: AMC
Date/Time: Sundays: 9/8c
Genre: Horror/Drama
Favorite Character: Daryl
